News: Onstage Marriage Proposal At Comedy Gig
Spencer Jones' gig at the Soho Theatre on Friday night ended in an unusual way. One of Jones' team proposed to his girlfriend onstage. Luckily she said yes.
Jones had just come to the end of his performance of his Edinburgh Comedy Award-nominated show The Audition when he invited Kit Sullivan up to thank him for all the work he had done on the production. Sullivan asked if his girlfriend, Natasha Doughty, could come onstage too, so they both joined Jones.
While standing on a vibrating plate – an integral part of the hit show – Sullivan proposed to Doughty, who was holding the microphone for him. They have been together for ten years and plan to marry in June.
After the unusual event Jones told Beyond The Joke: "He said he wants me to be an usher at the wedding. Luckily Glastonbury is not on this year so I won't have to miss it. Kit worked with me in the build up to Edinburgh festival driving up and down the country doing work in progress and previews shows. Over the last two years he has become a really good mate. Initially he was just going to be my flyerer, Then he ended up being my tech, and this year he's properly in the show."
He added: "He's a comedian in is own right working under the name Kit Sullivan. His real name is Chris but he hates being called that so please print this bit and please everyone when you see him say 'oh hi Chris'."
Spencer Jones' next project is a sitcom for the BBC.
