Comedian and actor Adrian Edmondson has revealed how his old BBC sitcom helped to land him the role of an officer alongside villainous General Hux in the latest Star Wars blockbuster.
Talking to Graham Norton on his Radio 2 show Edmondson explained that the director of The Last Jedi is a massive fan of the Edmondson/Rik Mayall sitcom Bottom.
"I'm as surprised as everyone else," said the former Young Ones star of his latest role, before going on to tell listeners how it happened.
"It was so secretive, the whole thing, even the script they gave me was only my part. I never knew I had the first line in the movie. If I had known I might have not been able to do it!"
"The reason I'm in it is because the director Rian Johnson is a fan of Bottom. When he was a student he got a book of the scripts of Bottom before he had the videotape. With his friends he made an episode. He won't send it to me. I've got to go to his house and watch it. He won't have it go out into the public."
The burning question is will Edmondson return in the next Star Wars movie. "I've know idea. And if I did know I couldn't tell you."
