The rebooted version of the Generation which went out on Easter Sunday was slammed by critics but has notched up good viewing figures. The first of two shows fronted by Mel and Sue attracted an average of 5.1 million viewers, according to overnight figures.
This was in a sharp contrast to the response of a number of television critics. The Telegraph gave the show a paltry one star and said: "If the BBC doesn't think a revival is potentially good enough to beat the Saturday night competition on ITV, then it has no business reviving The Generation Game in the first place...stop trying to revisit the past. Go away and think up some original ideas."
The Times wrote: "The problem here was that you could almost smell the desperation to make it work."
The i Paper said: "this felt forced and scripted."
The Guardian went for the so-bad-it-was good conclusion: ""Somehow, it manages to be both a little bit glorious and groansome to the max at the same time."
Beyond The Joke called it "Woeful". Read our full review here.
