BBC Three has released a track from Variety, the band that features in the comedy Wannabe, starring Lily Brazier (Miche in People Just Do Nothing).
Brazier plays Maxine, a failed early-noughties pop star turned failing music manager who, now a middle-aged mum of two, is trying to reclaim the spotlight for herself by reuniting her old girl band. By the end of the series, Maxine has reformed Variety comprised of her, one of the original members Mel and a new third member.
The four-part series is available on BBC Three now, and also airs on BBC One on Fridays at 11.25pm.
Variety’s song ‘Never Giving Up’ is being released on Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming platforms today.
Lily Brazier says: “Being Maxine has allowed me to live out my childhood girl band fantasies, despite my lack of musical talent. Variety’s single ‘Never Giving Up’ is painfully catchy – I defy anyone not to have “champagne’s on me” ringing in their ears for the foreseeable future”.
Catch Wannabe on BBC Three now and on BBC One tonight (Friday 13th April) at 11.25pm.
