Secret Dinosaur Cult is the brand new weekly podcast from acclaimed comic Sofie Hagen and rising star Jodie Mitchell. Sofie and Jodie have made this cult as an excuse to talk about everything they’re interested in talking about, like queerness, sex, body image, whether they’re good housemates, and all their enemies. Expect discussions of numerous dinosaurs, all of which are a fossilised veneer for covering identity, daddy issues, and all of the terrible things Sofie and Jodie have done (and which the audience must forgive them for).
Hagen reveals the unorthodox way the podcast came about: "During the Edinburgh Fringe, I was planning to start a podcast with another comedian. Four minutes before the show was going to start, and as the audience was entering the room, my planned co-host called me and said they couldn’t make it. Jodie Mitchell was there to watch the show, and I said to her, 'Get up on stage NOW, we have to improvise a podcast.' She said 'Okay' - and Secret Dinosaur Cult was born right then and there."
The first three episodes of this new podcast hit the airwaves on the day of the launch, October 15th, with a weekly new episode released every Monday after. Expect segments such as ‘Terrible Person’, ‘The Ross Geller Corner of Shame’, ‘Daddyhole’, and a whole bunch of brutally honest, blisteringly funny content.
Sofie Hagen is a stand-up comedian, an author of the upcoming book Happy Fat, a fat activist and a veteran podcaster with over 2 million downloads of her hit podcast Made of Human (recommended by The Guardian and Radio 4) to her name. Sofie has graced TV screens across the world, including BBC One, Comedy Central, BBC Three and Channel 4. Sofie has also appeared on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 4 Extra and Lols Lounge on BBC Radio 1. She is the former host of The Guilty Feminist podcast. Her awards include Fringe Best Newcomer (2015). Chortle’s Best Newcomer (2014) and Laughing Horse’s New Act of the Year (2013).
Jodie Mitchell is a promising up-and-coming stand-up comedian, drag king and improviser. She is part of critically acclaimed drag king troupe Pecs as her male alter-ego John Travulva, supported by Soho Theatre Young Company, a founding member of Fringe sell-out, queer-women comedy collective The Lol Word, and has been seen on BBC One Scotland and heard on BBC Radio 4 Extra. She was a Finalist at the 2018 Funny Women Awards, and is an alumna of 30-year Fringe improvised comedy veterans The Improverts.
