The recent live revival of Whose Line Is It Anyway? has been a welcome surprise. The classic improvisation show still gets plenty of airings on television but who would have thought it would have been such a hit onstage that after two West End runs it is now coming to the Royal Albert Hall in the run-up to Christmas.

One of the attractions of the new run is that so many of the original team are still on board. Clive Anderson is still in charge and the line-up includes Josie Lawrence, Greg Proops, Charles Esten, Brad Sherwood, and Jeff Davis, together with musicians Laura Hall and Linda Taylor.

Here consummate ad lib comic Mochrie answers our vital 13 questions.

1. What is the last thing you do before you go onstage (apart from check your flies and/or check your knickers aren't sticking out of your skirt and check for spinach between your teeth)?

Take a breath.

2. What irritates you?

Rudeness

3. What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?

Ate Romaine lettuce.

4. What is the most stupid thing you have ever done?

Ate Romaine lettuce.

5. What has surprised you the most during your career in comedy?

That I have one. Being an improviser was not an occupation when I was growing up, so I’m very fortunate to be able to do what I do.

6. What do your parents/children (delete as applicable) think of your job?

My parents were relieved that it worked out and my daughter loves the experiences and travel that job has opened up for the family.

7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?

People expect you to always have a joke for them. It’s my job, not my life.

8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m askingthese questions). What do you think of you?

I get by. I’ve been very lucky that I have gotten to work with great people who inspire me to do better.

9. How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?

I earn enough and would like to earn the amount needed to never worry about what I earn.

10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?

Luck is important. I was lucky that Whose Line came along and showcased my one marketable talent. You need luck, but you also have to be ready when that break happens.

11. Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories -golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latterare tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into athird category?

I’m a golfer. Life’s too short to worry about what may go wrong, or has gone wrong. Keep moving forward.

12. Who is your favourite person ever and why – not including family or friends or other comedians?

I don’t know the name, but whoever invented red wine.

13. Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not? (please think long and hard about this question, it's to settle an argument with my girlfriend. The future of our relationship could depend on your response).

I do keep them tidy. I like to be able to find things when I need them.
