Daniel Kitson has described the first night performance of his latest show Keep at Battersea Arts Centre in January as "pretty shonky".
On his latest newsletter announcing Australian dates for Keep, Kitson advised fans down under not to read the reviews in advance of seeing the show. "Not simply because it got an old fashioned kicking in the papers based largely (although not exclusively) on a pretty shonky first night but also because knowing as little as you can on the way in is best for maximum fun times (Motto #29)".
Kitson received a number of harshly critical reviews, often saying that the show was overlong and in need of an edit.
Beyond The Joke reviewed the show later in the run when it was still quite long but nowhere near as bad as expected. Read that review here, but not before seeing the show.
