2Northdown, the live comedy venue in King’s Cross, has announced the result of its inaugural New Act Comedy Competition, following two months of heats that saw its panel of judges whittle down 120 entrants, some of the UK’s undiscovered comedy talent, to 11 finalists.
The competition aims to identify and nurture some of London’s finest new comedy talent, giving its entrants a platform to perform to a live audience and a panel of well known members of the industry from Assembly Rooms, Avalon, Chambers, InterTalent Group, Kilimanjaro Live and Phil McIntyre.
The first heat, held in December, was open to all types of comedy acts who were given five minutes to perform their material. The comedians ranked most highly by both the audience and the industry judges progressed to the next stage.
Following a tough final, Katie Pritchard and Chloe Petts were crowned the winner and runner-up of the competition. Katie wowed the audience with her absurd and delightful musical history lesson and will now receive the grand prize of £500, a paid spot on a 2Northdown show and a host of smaller prizes.
Runner-up Chloe will receive a paid spot, a framed poster on the venue’s ‘Wall of Fame’ with the winner and a host of smaller prizes.
The 2Northdown New Act Competition will run annually every winter and will return for the first round of heats in November 2019. Applications will open in September here: https://www.2northdown.com/new-act
All the finalists were filmed and the videos will be available to watch on Laughing Around’s YouTube Channel.
