The winners have been announced at the 99 Club Female & Non-Binary Comedians’ Bursary Showcase 2019.
The winners are Janine Harouni and Helen Bauer. They both receive a bursary of £500 each to go towards the costs of taking their debut show to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer. The other finalists below will also receive £150 each.
The finalists were:
Helen Bauer - taking "Little Miss Baby Angel Face", tackling the perils of overthinking and being a magnet for drama.
Yuriko Kotani - taking "Somosomo", a show embracing the challenges of cultural differences, specifically relating to her home country of Japan.
Sophie Duker - taking "Venus", an unconventional journey of woke self-discovery.
Janine Harouni - taking "Stand Up With Janine Harouni (Please Remain Seated)", a show about reconciling difference and standing up for your beliefs.
Emily Woods - taking an as yet untitled show about the difficulties of navigating sexual conquests through CityMapper and moving across the world at the age of 18.

The judges were Hollie Ebdon (Ebdon Management), Steve Bennett (Chortle), Hannah Martin (PBJ Management), Bruce Dessau (Evening Standard/Beyond The joke), James Woroniecki (Creative Director of The 99 Club) and acclaimed comedian Desiree Burch (Live at the Apollo, Mock The Week, QI).
