Danny Baker is returning – but this time as a podcaster.
Baker, who was sacked by the BBC from his Radio 5 show after a tweet about the royal family which featured a chimp, used Twitter again to announce his comeback: "My own stand alone podcast, featuring all the old firm and even the Sausage Sandwich Game, will begin in the new year. Emails encouraged, calls taken, subjects bizarre. A twice a week meeting, we can rule the world. #CandyManReturns"
His fans unsurprisingly greeted the news with delight. Here is a small selection of responses. Julian Shea tweeted: "YES YES YES!!! You have just made the world a happier sillier place. Count me in. A shame if it means no more #BehindClosedDoors but hey ho, snail on the thorn etc.."
Ian Kennedy wrote: "Have a word with @profanityswan about monetising this. Loads of us would be happy to chuck you a quid or 2 a month. TV and radio are so last century."
Rich B tweeted: "So pleased to hear this Danny! Was only listening to a saved podcast of your show from earlier this year this afternoon thinking ‘I wish he could bring this simply brilliant show back as a podcast’ - YES!!!!"
Mandy Fitton wrote: "Brilliant news! We’ve missed the Sausage Sandwich Game, and have been re-enacting the Toaster Game in its absence..."
The podcast will not launch, however, until next year. Baker added by way of explanation: "despite what received wisdom may think, I'm quite busy till 2020...."
