Finlay Christie has won 2019’s So You Think You’re Funny? competition, the UK’s original comedy talent search celebrating its 32nd year.
Following heats across the country, Finlay Christie was winner, with Shane Daniel Byrne coming in as first runner-up and Charlie George coming in as second runner-up.
The So You Think You’re Funny? Grand Final was compered by 2004 finalist Zoe Lyons and is presided over by a panel of judges comprised of industry experts. This year, they were: Artistic Directors of the Gilded Balloon, Karen & Katy Koren, Director of Melbourne International Comedy Festival Susan Provan, Beyond the Joke’s Bruce Dessau, The Sunday Times Culture Editor Helen Hawkins, and special guest judge Jenny Éclair, the first solo female comedian to win an Edinburgh Comedy Award.
The other finalists were Claire Haus, Denis Len, Erika Ehler, Fady Kassab, Kate Bancroft and Kate McGann.
Finlay Christie will win a cash prize, a trip to perform at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival 2020, a run as part of Gilded Balloon’s 2020 Fringe programme, a complimentary professional headshot photoshoot by Steve Ullathorne, complimentary filmed copy and professional photographs of the winner’s spot from the Grand Final to use in their showreel alongside mentorship and support from Karen Koren and the So You Think You’re Funny? team.
