Comedian Kevin Hart has been injured in a car crash in Los Angeles.

Reports say the star of the hit movie Ride Along was taken to hospital with "major back injuries" on Sunday following the accident.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Hart was a passenger in his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda at the time of the accident, which was just after midnight LA time 

The report said that the driver, Jared Black, lost control of the car and it tumbled into an embankment.

Black also sustained major back injuries. A third passenger was unhurt.
