News: BBC To Run Comedy At King's Stand Up Shows

Jo Caulfield, Ninia Benjamin & Mark Nelson Share Circuit Comedian of the Year Award

BBC Scotland is to run two programmes showcasing performers who were filmed over two nights at the King's Theatre in Glasgow.

The Comedians at the King's nights were the brainchild of comedian John Moloney in response to the fact that television seemed to be fixated on young comedians and was ignoring more experienced comedians who knew their craft backwards and were having storming club gigs week in week out.

The first show goes out on Sunday, December 22 at 10.30pm and features Fred MacAulay, Leith resident Jo Caulfield (pictured), Brian Higgins, Scottish comedy scene stalwart Michael Redmond and acclaimed comic Janey Godley.

The second show airs on Sunday, December 29 at 10.30pm and features Gary Little, John Moloney, Ninia Benjamin and Andy Askins.

The shows, directed by Richard Melvin, will also be available on iPlayer straight after broadcast.

Here is the original story of how and why John Moloney decided to put together these shows.
