Streaming Service NextUp has announced its next batch of releases. There are specials from Casual Violence, Ashley Hayden, Njambi McGrath, Lou Conran and Alexander Bennett.
In celebration of their ten year anniversary, multi award-winning sketch comedy troupe Casual Violence present a double bill special, celebrating some of the best sketches from their impressive back catalogue. Expect menacing Remembrance Day poppy volunteers, maudlin museum curators, vicious ventriloquists, nasty narrators, songs about socks, and the long awaited return of Mr Pret A Manger from the stars of BBC Radio 4’s Sketchorama and hit podcast sitcom Hector Vs The Future.
A whistle-stop tour of African history, Njambi McGrath’s ’Accidental Coconut’ explores the juxtaposition of people mourning from the loss of former glory and those mourning how that former glory impacted on their lives ripping apart their innocence. In a time when the British public are re-examining who they are, it is poignant to see comedy that tackles the story and experience of coming from the other side of the empire.
Lou Conran returns with a thoughtfully funny show about presumption, misunderstandings and misgivings (and - as you might have guessed from the name - a man called Darren). Superlative storyteller Conran shines in this ‘masterclass of longform comedy’ (EdingburghGuide.com).
Award winning comedian Alexander Bennett returns with this passionately delivered hour of dark, observational comedy in which he reassesses all of his relationships following an escape from an abusive partner.
NextUp co-founder Sarah Henley says; ‘2020 takes off with quite a bang with our first new additions of the year! None of these new acts mince their words or shy away from controversial topics and we’re really chuffed to be adding them to the catalogue to kick off the year. We’re also sharing our second seasonal trailer to follow our autumn releases. Lots more to come for us this year; watch this space!’
