Comedian Steve Royle, who appeared in the live return of sitcom Phoenix Nights, was one of the hits of the first edition of the new series of Britain's Got Talent on ITV1.

His madcap jokes, prop comedy and wacky juggling with guitars earnt him four thumbs up from the judges, David Walliams, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.

Royle is a panto regular and In 2015 he performed 16 nights at The Manchester Arena as part of the "Phoenix Nights Live" show, helping raise over £5 million in the process. He is well known on the northern comedy circuit, but this appearance could help him break through nationally.

He was due to star in a stage show about legendary comedian Dan Leno in London's West End this month but due to the coronavirus that has been delayed.
