Comedian Mark Watson has completed his 24-hour marathon online gig, raising over £38,000 in the process.
The show, streamed on Twitch, started at 9pm on Friday evening and concluded on Saturday night. During that time Watson was joined for gigs, stunts and chats by umpteen familiar comedy faces.
Those that popped in included Jayde Adams, Shappi Khorsandi, Jen Brister, Tim Key, Alexis Dubus, Steve McNeil, Markus Birdman (who painted a map of the world highlighting the good things in each country, Joz Norris (who boldly attempted to read Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast in 24 hours), Laura Lexx, Flo & Joan, Arthur Smith, Daliso Chaponda and Rufus Hound.
Watson has considerable previous when it comes to marathon gigs. His first 24 hour show was at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2004. He then did a 36 hour show in 2006 and more marathon shows in 2007 and 2009. He also did one for Comic Relief at the Pleasance in London in 2015 and did one to tie in with the London marathon in 2019.
But this was the first time he has done one during lockdown via a webcam.
Before embarking on his epic gig Watson tweeted: "By the way, I am not claiming this is some big-hearted act of charity. Doing a 24-hour show is a deranged cry for attention. It's just, it is *also* for charity. All righty."
On Sunday afternoon Watson tweeted: "Parenting update: Dad is a bit off the pace here."
