Richard Herring is to host Streaming site Nextup's next ‘Thank You Gala’ on the 6th June 2020.
NextUp, the digital comedy club streaming incredible unseen sets from the best of comedy’s rising stars, has announced the gala evening to round off their JustGiving campaign. The event will be hosted by Richard Herring, and comedians including Adam Buxton, Mark Watson, Kiri Pritchard McClean, Tom Rosenthal and Yuriko Kotani have been confirmed at the time of going to press.
Launched in February to provide financial support to comedians who had suffered loss of income as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, NextUp’s #hecklethevirus campaign has raised just shy of £100,000 at the time of going to press with hundreds of donations including generous pledges from Lee Mack, Dawn French and Sara Pascoe.
To mark the end of the campaign, NextUp are presenting a brilliant night of live streamed comedy featuring a host of comics from around the world doing short sets, sketches, magic, songs and generally causing as much entertaining chaos as possible. NextUp’s virtual venue, NextUp Now, which has been live streaming for the last eight weeks, will be used as the platform for the night. It allows interaction with audiences, live chat and importantly, live donations which will go straight into the JustGiving campaign.
Packed full of short performances from a fantastic line up of comics, the evening will act as the final round of fundraising for the JustGiving campaign.

NextUp producer Tom Brandt said ‘The response from both inside and outside the industry has been astounding, and has made a huge and tangible difference. We’ve been able to help
hundreds of comics stay afloat in what has been an unparalleled time of hardship. This has only been possible due to the generosity of the industry, both financially and with their time and we could not be more grateful for their support. We’re going out with a bang and marking the end of the campaign with something special, we hope people enjoy it!’
NextUp share subscription revenue 50/50 with comedians and also recently launched a Just Giving campaign to help comedians stay afloat during COVID-19. The campaign has raised almost £100k for comedians struggling as a result of loss of earnings as a result of the pandemic.
