It has been reported on social media that Anthony Goodrick has died.
Tony was well known to anyone who was ever involved in the annual NATYS New Act of the Year competition which started out at the Hackney Empire in the 1980s and recently returned there after taking place at various venues around London.
He was a tireless, hard-working member of the team that put the shows together, working for many years alongside Roland and Claire Muldoon and Frank Sweeney as part of the Cast/New Variety collective that was so important for championing and supporting comedy in east London and beyond.
Roland Muldoon wrote on Facebook that his death "has left us and his wide network of friends devastated. Tony, a committed cultural enthusiast influenced all who knew him with his irreplaceable love of music alongside his involvement in the New Variety work at the Hackney Empire and his annual coordination of the New Act of the Year the NATYS Show....He will be mourned by so many friends, acts and comrades, and our family"
Comedian Otiz Cannelloni, who compered the NATYS in 2018, wrote: "He was a true gentleman."
Comedian Benjamin Bankole Bello wrote: "I am so gutted to hear this Roland I remember him very well and a supporter of my work totally devasted. God bless his soul."
The cause of death has not been given.
