Nish Kumar is one of those crafty comedians who has been getting better by stealth. There has been no landmark breakthrough show, he has simply improved every year. He is a smart funny storyteller who has sensibly moved on from the inevitable tales of being a disappointment to his parents because he didn’t become a doctor or accountant. He tackles race, but in an inventive, idiosyncratic style. He developed a great routine after being mistaken for writer Sarfraz Mansoor at the Hay Festival, even though Sarfraz Manzoor is a good decade older. And was standing nearby at the time. Kumar’s latest show is entitled Ruminations on the Nature of Subjectivity. It may be to do with the subjectivity of comedy – some people will always hate what others find hilarious – or it may be about something entirely different. Either way it will be worth seeing. Sarfraz Manzoor, sorry, Nish Kumar is previewing at the Museum of Comedy tonight with Jim Campbell.
Nish Kumar is at The Pleasance Courtyard from July 30 - August 24. Tickets here.
