Jason Byrne is doing a gig for the Invisible Dot at the Union Chapel in London on Saturday night alongside Adam Buxton. It is not too clear who is headlining, but I hope for Adam’s sake it is Jason. Buxton is brilliant, but the copper-haired Irish livewire is pretty much impossible to follow.
Madcap comedian Jason Byrne has announced a brand new UK tour for autumn 2015. The 20 Years A Clown tour marks two decades in comedy and starts on 1st October at Colchester Arts Centre.
The Irish comic said: "I’ve been doing the comedy circuit for 20 years and I enjoy it more than ever. I’m really looking forward to getting back out on the road; this show will be more energetic and more fun than ever before!"
Jason Byrne is adding a new interactive element to his forthcoming show, which starts its 28-date UK tour in Sheffield on October 9. The tour follows a successful run at the Edinburgh Festival.
Each year Jason is asked for the name of his touring show and each year Jason has to think up a title. This year he is handing the power back to the people and is asking his audience to name the show for him. Hence the provisional title of You Name The Show.
Hold the proverbial front page. Stop the so-called presses. Man Down is not yet another school-based sitcom. When I heard that Greg Davies would be playing a teacher in his self-penned sitcom debut I assumed this would pick up similar themes to Big School and Bad Education. Particularly as Davies has carved out a bit of a blackboard-based niche for himself playing Mr Gilbert in The Inbetweeners.
I don't think I've ever wanted to like a series as much as I wanted to like Father Figure. I've loved its star, Jason Byrne, for years. As a freewheeling stand-up he takes some beating and I've seen him deliver some brilliantly unpredictable shows, dragging audience members onstage to be part of his cock-eyed manic mayhem. And I liked his Radio 2 series which has now become this BBC1 sitcom. So it is with a heavy heart that I have to say that Father Figure is painfully, excruciatingly disappointing.
