Matt Forde
UKTV has commissioned two more series of satirical series Unspun with Matt Forde. There will be a quick-turnaround, twice-weekly third series in the run-up to the general election for Dave and a fourth series has also just been commissioned.
Former Prime Minister Tony Blair is the special guest on the latest edition of Unspun With Matt Forde, on Dave tonight (Wednesday) at 10pm.
His appearance was kept highly secret in the run-up but it was clear that this week's political interviewee was someone big because there was more security than usual when the programme was filmed in London last night.
Matt Forde’s new political series nearly hit the buffers before it had even been recorded. Forde’s first guest was scheduled to be Labour leadership contender Owen Smith, but he pulled out. Forde suggested on the show that Smith was concerned about appearing laddish. It was a shame, but his stand-in, former Home Secretary Alan Johnson was good value for money anyway.
Update: Labour leadership contender Owen Smith pulled out of his appearance last night and was replaced by Labour MP Alan Johnson...
Matt Forde has been one of the rising stars of political comedy in recent years and now he gets his very own series on Dave. The six-part run of Unspun with Matt Forde will be a weekly hour of chat about the chaotic current state of the nation which will hopefully a few laughs as well as insights.
Political comedian Matt Forde is to get his own topical television series.
UKTV has ordered a brand new 6 x 60 minute weekly political comedy series, Unspun With Matt Forde, set to air on Dave in September.
This review first appeared in the Evening Standard here.
In General Election year it is more important than ever to have comedians engaging with politics. There are plenty who drop a soupcon of satire into their shows, but not many who deliver an hour of solid humour about the people who either are governing the country or want to govern the country.
MP Dame Tessa Jowell has admitted that she is considering standing for election to be the next London Mayor. Jowell has been asked the question a number of times, but this interview, which took place in Manchester during the Labour Party Conference, included probably the most conclusive answer she has given yet.
After last week’s show on relationships, the second part of Jon Richardson’s trilogy discovering how to be a happy adult looks into the subject of money. Does wealth make you happy? he asks. It’s a well-worn question but the episode is a corker, mainly because Richardson has clearly given the matter a lot of thought: “I would rather save a pound than earn a tenner,” he muses in one of his Seinfeldian comic interludes.
There has been a bit of a trend for sending comedians off to do things in pairs recently. There have been all those scariest-car-journey-in-the-world docs and the other week Simon Day and John Thomson did a gaucho thing. And, of course, Coogan and Brydon put their own twist on buddy banter in The Trip.
