Peter Kay
After playing 14 UK arenas since 2016 and selling over 75,000 tickets, Peter Kay’s phenomenally successful Dance For Life is pleased to announce brand new dates for 2020 taking his remarkable dance-a-thon parties on the road again and raising money for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving research.
Why are some things a hit and some things not a hit? It must the oldest question in the showbiz book. And, of course, the trouble is that nobody has the definitive answer. Or we'd all be having hits. Screenwriter William Goldman probably got closest to cracking the chestnut when he wrote about Hollywood: “nobody knows anything.” Nobody sets out to open a bad restaurant either I guess and I’ve been to a fair few of them in my time, but that’s another story…
A story has spread on Twitter that comedian Peter Kay has died. There is no truth to this story despite the hashtag #RipPeterKay trending.
There has been no officlal statement and it appears that Kay, 46, has been the victim of a cruel Twitter hoax for the third time.
It is not clear how the hoax started. It may have been prompted by a tweet of a genuine-looking BBC Breaking News logo which said that the stand-up superstar had died but had no link to a story.
Looking for a last minute gift that won't take up too much room under the Christmas tree? 2019 looks like a bumper year for comedy tours. The biggest one should have been Peter Kay's tour, but that was cancelled. Instead we have the following – in no particular order – to look forward to.
Peter Kay has just issued the attached statement on social media, announcing that he has cancelled all upcoming work projects.
The statement says that this is due to unforeseen family circumstances. This includes all of his Dance For Life DJ gigs and also the enormous stand-up tour that was planned for 2018 and 2019.
He goes on to say that "this decision has not been taken lightly and I'm sure you'll understand that my family must always come first."
In case you've been living in a cave without wi-fi you probably know that Peter Kay is going on tour next year whether you want to know or not. He told us on Tonight with Jonathan Ross and on Strictly Come Dancing over the weekend and would have probably plugged his shows on Newsnight if he had half a chance.
Update 21/11: Even more dates have been added to Peter Kay's new tour due to unprecedented demand. The five extra 2019 dates on top of the list below are May 24, 25, Arena Birmingham. May 31, Sheffield FlyDSA Arena. June 21, 22, London The O2. The new tickets go on sale at 10am on Wednesday, November 22.
One of Britain’s biggest comedians, the multi award winning actor, writer, director, author and producer Peter Kay, today announced his first UK stand up tour in eight years.
Within the first few hours the tour news was the top Google trend in the UK and was top three on twitter. The official tour video also amassed over 1.1 million views and over 50 thousand likes, shares and comments within two hours on Peter Kay’s Facebook page alone.
Peter Kay has announced a new stand-up tour.
His last tour in 2010, which still officially ranks with the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling comedy tour of all time, played to over 1.2 million people.
Kay’s new tour will star start at the Birmingham Arena on April 21 2018 and ends on March 19, 2019 at the Liverpool Echo Arena.
Peter Kay delivered a message of defiance at Manchester Arena's We Are Manchester show last night.
The event marked the reopening of the venue four months after a bomb killed 22 people.
"The victims will never ever be forgotten, but we've got to move forward with love and not hate, and that's how we win," Kay said.
