Following its successful premiere in the U.S., E4 has announced it will be bringing the new female caped crusader to UK screens after acquiring the much-anticipated WBTV series, Batwoman. Starring Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black) as the DC Super Hero, the series will be coming to E4 in 2020 in a deal with Warner Bros. Television Group.
E4 has agreed a major first-look development deal with the inimitable producers behind YouTube hit Wall of Comedy, and co-producers and stars of viral sensation, Shiro’s Story, a three-part drama told mainly via rap in addition to spoken dialogue. Inspired by real-life events in south London, the drama has amassed over 17 million combined views and a huge dedicated following.
Maxxx is a brand new six-part comedy series that centres around formerly famous boyband star turned drug-shamed tabloid laughing stock Maxxx (O-T Fagbenle – The Handmaid’s Tale (pictured), NW, Looking). He’s down, but not out…he’s trying to make a comeback to prove to the world – but mostly to his famous popstar ex-girlfriend – that he’s not the massive loser everyone says he is.
If you are the kind of person who doesn't watch E4 because you think it is a bit too youthy, then make an exception for GameFace, the new series written by and starring Roisin Conaty.
It is very much about a woman of a certain age - definitely no longer youthy – trying to curb her chaotic excesses with little success. Marcella (Conaty) is a struggling actor, making ends meet as a children's entertainer (not easy when you are hungover, as she often is) and in various dead-end temp jobs (also not easy when you are hungover).
Roisin Conaty’s self-penned sitcom GameFace, a new six-part comedy for E4, is due to start later this year. The series began life as a short comedy BLAP and sees Conaty play Marcella, an aspiring actress with a distinct world view who despite being ever optimistic can’t quite get her work, family or love life on track.
I could pretty much watch anything that Tim Key is in, so I’m glad he is in Gap Year. I’m not sure if I’d have stuck with the opening episode without his moon-faced grin popping up soon after the start as irritating hanger-on Greg.
