Red Dwarf
Dave is to broadcast a major definitive celebration of Red Dwarf, the most successful sci-fi sitcom of all time, entitled Red Dwarf: The First Three Million Years
The idea of a Red Dwarf film has been floating around for years and now they have finally done it. OK, The Promised Land is not getting a Star Wars-style major cinema release and in a way the show's devoted army of fans might have preferred another full series, but this 90-minute special certainly had plenty going for it.
The stars of sitcom Red Dwarf have reunited for a new advert for the AA.
In the ad, titled Stellar Rescue, which has just started screening, the characters played by Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Robert Llewellyn and Danny John-Jules are trapped on a planet when their spaceship Starbug breaks down. Luckily the AA App comes in handy and a patrol gets them out of their intergalactic pickle.
I've dipped in and out of this latest series of Red Dwarf but I had to make a point of watching Skipper as it features the long-awaited return of Norman Lovett as Holly the computer. Sorry if that has spoilt the surprise for you, but it has been pretty well publicised. And in fact there is another brilliant surprise comeback from the very early days which I won't reveal. But you can tell how devoted the fans in the studio audience are because his face gets a big cheer before he has even said anything.
Red Dwarf XII starts Thursday 12th October on Dave.
Episodes will preview on UKTV Play every Thursday, starting from the 5th October

Norman Lovett is to return to Red Dwarf for the first time in 18 years.
Deadpan comedian Lovett played Holly the computer in the first two series of Red Dwarf, before Hattie Hayridge took over for series three through five. The character was then absent for the show for almost two full series, before returning - again played by Norman - at the very end of series seven and throughout the eighth.
But ever since Back to Earth, Holly has been absent from the ship until now.
The first picture of the Red Dwarf cast back in action has been released. The new series, Series XI, returns to Dave in September with Danny John-Jules as The Cat, Chris Barrie as Rimmer, Craig Charles as Lister and Robert Llewellyn as Kryten.
The series synopsis is as follows:
Last year around the time of Ben Elton's The Wright Way there was a lot of talk in the press about whether comedians lose it in old age. One comedian who goes about his business quietly and is still as funny as ever is Norman Lovett.
