Comedian Simon Evans is going on tour this autumn with his new show entitled Have We Met? following a run at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Simon Evans’ postponed dates have been rescheduled again. His The Work of the Devil tour now starts up again this May.
Evans' last tour, Genius 2.0, provided a hilarious analysis of the departure of any visible sign of intelligence from modern life. But his new show raises the stakes, with his usual excoriating views of a world on fire – given a perspective shift due to personal revelations that have recently turned his world upside down.
Following critical acclaim, a sell-out Edinburgh run and filling venues up and down the country so far this year, extra autumn dates have been added to Simon Evans’ tour The Work of the Devil. Tickets go on sale for the extra dates on Monday.
Simon Evans is one of the country's most stylish stand-up comedians. And I'm not just talking about his bespoke suits. On stage he has a relaxed, quiet authority that immediately reassures his audience that they are in safe hands. Evans has the kind of elegant, faintly fogeyish precision that suggests that he wishes that he could perform from a high-backed leather armchair with a tumbler of the finest Scotch in his hands. He is particularly good at getting irate about the ills of modern society.
Comedian Simon Evans will be filming his first live DVD in Brighton on September 15. It will be at the Theatre Royal and will be a greatest hits set drawing on material from his recent live shows and TV and radio appearances.
Evans' last Radio 4 series, Simon Evans Goes To Market, in which he set out to make global economics funny, has recently been recommisioned. He also recently completed a London run of his latest show, Leashed.
In past years the London comedy circuit would virtually shut down during the Edinburgh Festival, but for a combination of different reasons various Edinburgh regulars are spending this summer in the capital. Simon Evans, for example, is at the Soho Theatre from August 12 - 23 with his show, Leashed, in which he fulminates about the state of modern society in his typically well-turned out fogeyish way.
I was intrigued, surprised and generally horrified to read that John Sessions is a UKIP supporter. The interview in The Guardian didn't make as big a deal out of it as I would have thought. Which was curious. Surely it would be interesting to hear someone as intelligent as the Stella Street star to go into great depth about his support for this party.
There has been much wailing and gnashing of teeth recently about the decline of comedy clubs. In fact I've written about it myself. But two clubs open in London this week, bucking the trend, albeit with the aid of some top quality TV talent.
Stewart Lee recently wrote an article in the New Statesman about the lack of right wing comedians. I sort-of doubt if Simon Evans is a card-carrying Cameronite, but there is something distinctly conservative about him. Not in a horrible Bernard Manning/Bob Monkhouse way, but in his love of traditional old values.
