BBC Football Coverage Interrupted By Porn Prank

The BBC's warm-up for the FA Cup replay between Liverpool and Wolves was interrupted by what sounded like pornographic noises in the studio.

Twitter went into overdrive wondering what had happened as the noises continued while Gary Lineker chatted in the studio to Alan Shearer who was standing out in the cold.

Jamie Surridge tweeted: "Omgggggg hahhahahah anyone else hear that on BBC 1?"

Rachel Harris asked, like many: "Right who’s getting fired on BBC 1 fa cup coverage at its finest" and added: "Well someone is keeping busy on #bbc coverage of the #FACup tonight"

"Howling at BBC1 getting done by the sex noise prank It hasn't been funny for about 7 years but it is on live TV..." wrote Hellie Roo.

Sam Huxley summed things up with: "I cannot believe what I’ve just witnessed on BBC 1."

Oscar wrote: "Whoever is doing them porn sounds on bbc 1 gets infinite lad points"

Jonthemon OBE tweeted: "Ha ha ha Lineker sweating, BBC 1 liverpool v wolves build up ‘sound effects‘ trolling is class"

Lineker and Danny Murphy were very professional and tried not to be distracted by what was going on, although afterwards Lineker did say: “Harvey Elliott’s goal was a screamer, which is not the only one we’ve had tonight”

Jay tweeted: "BBC 1 getting trolled, it's happened to us all, poor Gary well handled"

Chris Cooper wrote: "Someone is definitely getting sacked tonight after this shocker, unbelievable for 7:34pm on a Tuesday night on BBC 1" and was one of many quick-thinking viewers who posted a clip. Watch it here.

Tasha Louise: "Nahhhh porn noises on bbc 1, has to be the greatest tv moment of 2023 so far "

The Sun was quick with their headline: "Match of the Wahey"

Some people suggested that maybe it was a phantom ringtone and a phone that nobody could find was going off. Had the phone been hidden in the studio by a prankster? In fact...

...Update: After the match started Gary Lineker posted a picture of a mobile phone on Twitter and wrote: "Well, we found this taped to the back of the set. As sabotage goes it was quite amusing."

The BBC apologised and Gary Lineker went on Newsnight to discuss it and said: "it added to the whole game...as pranks go it was a good one."
