Some top quality comedy content on this week's edition of Sunday Brunch, with guests including Reece Shearsmith, Rachel Parris, Jayde Adams, and Tom Davis.
Shearsmith will no doubt be talking about the very exciting return of Inside No. 9, with the new series starting on BBC Two this Thursday, April 27 at 10pm. Guests on the first episode, Mother's Ruin, are Phil Daniels and Anita Dobson and guests lined up for the rest of the run include Confessions star Robin Askwith, Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), Claire Rushbrook (My Mad Fat Diary, Secrets & Lies), Frances Barber (Camille, Uncle Vanya), Leon Herbert (Salome's Last Dance, Batman), Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey, Bad Education) Menyee Lai (Stay Close, The Tower), Moyo Akandé (Guilt, The Cry), Samantha Spiro (Sex Education, Game of Thrones), Sheila Reid (Benidorm) and Ayda Kiiza.
Shearsmith has been quoted as saying that the new series will be slightly different in tone in places: "Some silly, some frightening, and some this time around quite gory, which is something that we haven’t done before. As always, lots of surprises, twists and turns."
Comedian and actor Tom Davis is back on C4 in a second series of The Curse. This time round it is set on the Costa del Crime in the 1980s which gives plenty of scope for some eye-wateringly bad fashions. For Davis though this made a nice change: "In the first series my character was mostly wearing a track suit. For this series I've been spoiled with some incredible looks. And some shorts. I think it's really a step up. I think it's funnier, but I also think there's a real darkness to it." Davis is going out on tour latest this year with his show Underdog. Details here.
One thing to note - if you like both The Curse and Inside No. 9 you'll be faced with a difficult choice - The Curse also returns on the same day and same time as Inside No. 9 – this Thursday, April 27 at 10pm. Though there are, of course, catch-up services, but as Inside is always full of surprises it might be best to watch it when it goes out, or at least stay well away from social media until you've seen it.
