Edinburgh Fringe Comedy Poster Awards – Winners Revealed

The winners of the seventh Comedy Poster Awards at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe have been announced at a live ceremony at Gilded Balloon’s Patter Hoose.

From a ten-strong shortlist announced yesterday, the judges’ choice of Panel Award was presented to Bennett Arron’s poster for Loser – designed and photographed by the comic himself. 

The other shortlisted entrants were Michael Welch: Ethnic Reveal Party; Ruth Hunter: The Ruth is on Fire; Troll; Liz Toonkel: Magic for Animals; Harriet Dyer: Mother; Che Burnley: Hate Pt. 1; Julia Masli: ha ha ha ha ha ha ha; The Lost Play Of Barry Wayworm; and Vittorio Angelone: Who Do You Think You Are? I Am!.

Meanwhile, the public-voted Audience Award went to Daniel Foxx’s devilishly-inspired Villain, designed and photographed by Jiksaw.

The rest of the top ten was, from 10 to 2: Samantha Day: The Booby Trap; Lindsey Santoro: Pink Tinge; Kirsty Mann: Skeletons; BeComedyUK: No Limits; Harriet Dyer: Mother; Wage Against The Machine; Bennett Arron: Loser; Dusk: A Bite-Size Love Story; and The Prince Andrew Tate Appreciation Hour.

Each of the two winners will receive a package of free poster placements on Edinburgh’s streets for their 2024 shows, courtesy of the city council’s advertising partner, Out of Hand. 

Comedy producer Gina Lyons, founder of the Comedy Poster Awards, says: “I love posters. I love comedy. And once again I'm proud of the Comedy Poster Awards for celebrating the eye porn that promotes art each Fringe!" 

2023 was the seventh year of the Comedy Poster Awards, having originally taken place in 2014

Almost 300 posters were submitted for this year’s contest. Founded by Gina Lyons, the awards are now co-owned and administered by British Comedy Guide (comedy.co.uk)

This year’s judges were Pete Collins, art director at Tommy (https://thisistommy.com/); Katy Cowan, founding editor of Creative Boom (https://www.creativeboom.com/); and Jules McGill, graphic designer and Head of Social & Production at Accelerated Intelligence (https://www.acceleratedintelligence.co.uk/)

Daniel Foxx: Villain is at Pleasance Courtyard at 7:05pm, 2-13 & 15-27 August

Bennett Arron: Loser is at The Liquid Rooms at 4:15pm, 5-27 August
