Oh no, I can't impress my friends and family by cheating and pretending I know all the answers any more when I watch House of Games. After a run of repeats when I've remembered the original episode this week a brand new series starts, with the first five episodes featuring contestants Ken Bruce, Alice Roberts, Perri Shakes-Drayton and Kiell Smith-Bynoe 

As has been noted in the past, gigging comedians crop up a lot – maybe they have a lot of spare time during the day for filming – and seem to fare particularly well on Richard Osman's House of Games. Maybe they are good at word games. Maybe they are good at the lateral thinking required. Maybe they suffer less from nerves in the heat of battle. Maybe they are just more competitive. Whatever the reason stand-ups usually start out as hot favourites. 

So it's a bit of a shame that there is no stand-up presence in the first episode. But there is Kiell Smith-Bynoe, who is a bit of a comedy legend. He has been on shows including Stath Lets Flats and Taskmaster and most famously he is one of the stars of Ghosts, which returns to BBC One for it's very last series on Friday, October 6 at 8.30pm.

And Smith-Bynoe also recently performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in his live show String V Spitta, about two rival children's entertainers. The word on the street is that a TV version is in development so look out for that.

In the meantime enjoy Smith-Bynoe on House of Games alongside academic, TV presenter and occasional Victoria Coren lookalike Alice Roberts, Popmaster maestro Ken Bruce and track and field athlete Perri Shakes-Drayton. Who will win? How should I know, it's not a repeat.
