Jones Bootmaker ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards Announces Nominees

The Jones Bootmaker ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards have just announced the nominees for Best Show and Best Newcomer for this year, 13 shows for Best Show and 10 for Best Newcomer on their website here. All are still in the running for the £5000 in prizes each for these two Awards plus there is a £5,000 Panel Prize.  100% of the sponsorship from Jones Bootmaker goes on the prizes to support artists, the shows are judged by around 30 volunteers who were at the Fringe anyway.  There were around 700 eligible shows this year (full eligibility criteria and judging process via the website).

The Awards were founded by comedian Nathan Cassidy with head judge and producer Sarah Bowles. Sarah Bowles says: 'It has been incredibly difficult to cut the lists down this year, with so many simply outstanding shows, so yes I guess you could say we have long-ish short ISH lists this year, but in the spirit of the Awards, we are here to support as many artists as possible!  And I repeat from last time, the lists obviously do not represent by any means the definitive list of what is great at the Fringe, it's just our panel of judges' opinions and much depends on luck with these things when people were seen, and at the end of the day you will hear much better from the streets and word of mouth what to see, always listen to the streets rather than awards and reviews! And there's always the Panel Prize of course - have you been overlooked for something amazing you're doing at the Fringe? Something extraordinary or something where you're helping other artists?  Do let us know!

The winners of all three prizes will be announced at the ceremony at The Counting House Ballroom late on Friday 23rd August with a show of live music with singer Hajar J. Woodland and band 1130pm-1230am and the 40 minute ceremony from 1230am hosted by Patrick Monahan.  The ceremony will be by invitation only, to request being on the guest list please contact Sarah at [email protected].
