News: W1A Returns With Life-Imitating-Art Cock-Up

W1A

The BBC press office must have been very pleased with itself when it came up with the idea of sending out invites to a screening of the new series of self-mocking satire W1A as if they had been sent out by the star of the comedy, Ian Fletcher.

The following email arrived earleir today 'from' Head of Values Ian Fletcher, who is played by Hugh Bonneville in the award-winning series:

"As you may know in recent months we have once again allowed cameras back in to New Broadcasting House to record some of the huge opportunities we face day to day in the Corporation’s mission to either Educate, Inform, or in extreme circumstances Entertain.

I would be delighted if you could join us on Tuesday 2nd April 2015 from 9.00am....for a screening of W1A....followed by a Q&A with selected members of the team."

However, seven hours later another email arrived. Someone had clearly noticed that 2 April is a Thursday and not a Tuesday:

"Further to the below and for the avoidance of doubt, the screening will be on Thursday 2nd April 2015Syncopatico has not been syncing correctly of late, so nothing changes there. Regards, Ian."

As Ian Fletcher would not have said, it's all not so good. Unless, of course, it was all a canny marketing ploy to get everyone talking about the new series of W1A, which will return this Spring.
