This second series of Am I Being Unreasonable? is proving to be a real up and down affair. After a disappointing first episode and and brilliant second episode this third instalment feels a little like treading water. And quite muddled water at that.
The main meat of the episode is Nic (Daisy May Cooper) and Dan (Dustin Demri-Burns) having joint therapy. This is already a bit of a TV trope and it doesn't really help that they are doing it on Zoom. The scenes are static and really depend on the strength of the script. While there are a few good comic lines and it's fun seeing Dan try to pretent to be an ape to get back to his primordial self, it's only when there is a cat-related incident that things really pick up.
Nic's big fear is that the Tarot card prediction may be coming true. If Ollie (Lenny Rush) did kill their pet cat Mr Meowgi could he be turning into a murderer? In flashbacks we see more of what happened when Nic's lover Alex was trapped in the doors of the train. Hoe responsible was she for his death?
There's also a storytelling scene with an ending that nobody really sees coming, but overall it feels a little as if this episode covers old ground without pushing things very far forward. This second series has been decidedly uneven so far, but there is something compelling about Daisy May Cooper that makes you want to stick with it as it builds to what I expect will be a pretty dramatic climax. * I'm also sticking with it because I've heard that Daisy and Charlie Cooper appear as their This Country characters in a later episode
