6. What do your parents think of your job?
My mother hopes it will all eventually lead to an audition for Coronation Street and new windows for her conservatory.
7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?
The solitary confinement. It’s like a jolly Abu Ghraib. It’s not healthy to work alone and mainly at night. It’s just us, the murderers and security guards. Having friends and a community on the circuit to gig with is so important.
8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?
My greatest fear is that I’d be wonderful at panto, so I will never do it. Every day is a fight against my inner Widow Twanky and my outer pretence that I could be Richard Pryor.
9. How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?
I earn enough to help my mother with her conservatory this year and I’d like to earn enough to set up a production company in five years with my friend Brona and afford guilt-free taxis, so I never have to learn to drive.
10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?
My acting career has been the product of training and slog and work and missed opportunities and some nice people backing me, but my stand-up career has been a series of very lucky breaks from very positive people who were just looking for someone and I happened to be there. I never doubt for minute about how lucky I’ve been in that respect.
11. Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into a third category?
I’m a self-harmer doing material abut golf.
12. Who is your favourite person ever and why - not including family or friends or other comedians?
My current crush is Sheryl Sandberg, I’ve spent most of her book Lean In saying “mmmmhmm” out loud to myself. I also dig Taylor Swift’s positive vibes for young girls and slightly older girls…
