they say comedy is largely about delivery of jokes, well Mark Simmons has taken the idea of delivery and run with it...
At a recent comedy gig in Nelson, New Zealand, Simmons was given a birthday card by a fan to deliver to his mother in Silsden, Yorkshire at a gig a few weeks later. Kiwi comedy fan Darren Meer explained "Mark played in Nelson, NZ and I was able to give him a birthday card to deliver to my mother in England. I had a broken foot at the time so couldn't fly long haul but with front row tickets in Nelson, his ‘what's your hobby’ routine was my chance to say 'asking comedians for favours'. I outlined the situation and told him I had bought tickets to the Silsden show in England for my mother’s 80th birthday a couple of weeks later.’"
Darren continued: "With encouragement from the audience Mark agreed to carry the card back to England and deliver it to my 80-year-old mother. He kept his word and made my mum (Patricia) incredibly happy with a card from her new favourite son, one of five. Fantastic live show in Nelson and my mum loved it too in England.’
Mark Simmons added "Darren told me where his mum was sitting so I did a pretend mind reading and she couldn’t believe how I knew so much about her."
Simmons, who won Dave’s Joke of the Fringe at the Edinburgh is on tour in 2026 with his new show ‘Jest To Impress’. He can’t promise to do everyone’s post though.
