Eric Morecambe’s Family Unveil Centenary Portrait of Morecambe and Wise
The family of Eric Morecambe have officially unveiled a newly commissioned portrait celebrating the legendary partnership of comedy duo Morecambe and Wise as part of the recent Eric Morecambe Centenary celebrations in Morecambe, Lancashire.

Created with the blessing and involvement of the estates of both Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, the portrait celebrates a significant anniversary for both stars. Eric Morecambe, born on 14 May 1926, would have celebrated his 100th birthday last month, while Ernie Wise, born on 17 November 1925, reached his centenary year in 2025.

The portrait, created by acclaimed UK artist Jen Allen, was officially unveiled at a special celebration attended by Eric Morecambe’s family, who were invited to see the completed artwork for the first time and to meet the artist behind the piece.

The family’s involvement continues with the release of a limited edition run of 195 hand-numbered prints, each accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Eric Morecambe’s family. The prints are available to pre-order now via Jen Allen’s website: https://shop.artbyjen.co.uk/product/mw

The commemorative portrait and accompanying print release form part of a wider programme of celebrations honouring Eric Morecambe’s life, legacy and enduring impact on British comedy nearly 100 years after his birth.

Gary Morecambe said: “They are forever young on TV and that’s how I picture them in my memories. This fabulous painting captures everything I emotionally recall about Dad and Ernie … their closeness, their trust and their enduring partnership. It’s such a wonderful way for us all to celebrate this memorable centenary."

Gail Morecambe said: “It’s just glorious … I see two happy boys in their bow ties, celebrating their 100th birthday party. The painting is remarkable; it’s caught every aspect of their warmth and particularly the twinkle in both of their eyes. Such a fitting way to celebrate this amazing centenary, I can’t stop looking at it.”
