News: SuperBob Movie Gets Cinema Release

Superbob

British indie movie SuperBob is to get a theatrical and video-on-demand release.

The film is directed by Jon Drever and stars Brett Goldstein (Derek, Hoff the Record, Uncle, Drifters and Undercover) in the lead role plus Catherine Tate, David Harewood, Natalia Tena, Laura Haddock and Ruth Sheen. The film will be released in cinemas on 16 October and will be available on home entertainment from 19 October.

SuperBob first appeared at a screening at the BFI during the London Comedy Film Festival in January, where Ricky Gervais called the film “wonderful”. Since then it has scooped a string of international awards and accolades including the Discovery Award at LOCO, four awards at Filmquest and Best Feature at Philadelphia Comic Con.

The film tells the story of Robert Kenner, a mild mannered postman from Peckham who, six years ago was struck by a meteor that gave him superpowers. Now he works for the Ministry of Defence as a civil servant, saving the world, filling out one bureaucratic form at a time. He is allowed every Tuesday off, as sanctioned by the UN, and today, the day on which the film is set, is the day he is finally going on a date with June; the woman he has been in love with for some time now. It should all be fine - if a visiting American Senator doesn’t start World War Three…

Director Jon Drever says: “I am so happy that the world finally gets to see our movieSuperBob. It turns out that making a British SuperHero Romcom about a lonely SuperHero who lives in Peckham is a whole load of fun. The cast and crew were wonderful to work with, I know I’m supposed to say that, but it’s really true. Even the parts of the process you imagine are going to be awful ended up being great, and I think all those goodtimes helped us make the sunny, funny, feelgood film I wanted us to make.”
