Comedian, actor and author Julian Dutton has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate in the forthcoming council elections in Llandovery, Camarthenshire.
He told Beyond The Joke: "I thought I'd take a leaf out of Eddie Izzard's book and get involved - I feel it's time more than ever to make a stand about things and defend liberalism in the face of current threats."
Dutton co-created, wrote and performed in the BBC1 show Alistair McGowan's Big Impression which won a British Comedy Award and later became The Big Impression. Dutton did impressions of celebrities as diverse as John Le Mesurier and Dustin Hoffman. More recently he co-wrote the children's series Scoop and Pompidou, the visual comedy starring Matt Lucas.
Dutton is the author of a number of books. His most recent is Keeping Quiet: Visual Comedy in the Age of Sound which was published by Chaplin Books in 2015.
