Scottish comedian Hamish Tennant has died.
The comic, dubbed the "godfather of Glasgow comedy" had been ill for a while. Late last year a crowdfunding campaign was set up for him as he was mainly housebound and unable to gig.
Fellow comedian Stu Henderson posted this touching tribute on Facebook: "My FB pal and comedian, Hamish Tennant, had been seriously ill and in hospital for some time, and yesterday I received the devastating news that he died, as Sepsis had taken over and they had stopped all medication
I met him briefly some years back at a BBC film shoot, and we had a right laugh together that day, … he was full of cheery nonsense and we got on so well together … and we chatted online continually ever since, especially during both of our hospital experiences of late, and compared notes and kept each other’s spirits up during the very worst of times
To say I’m upset is not even close … I’ve been in fukken bits.I was in Intensive Care twice last year with Sepsis and can empathise so strongly with what he went through
Hamish faced horrible illness and pain for months and months, with a resilience and bravery that was incredible, and I’m so sad to hear of him going down like this. I’m heart-broken
We became such pain-pals, rather than pen pals, over these months of our respective fights wae the monster of ill-health, and we supported each other throughout a lot of that
I owe him for that … for always asking after my health, and keeping in touch, week in week out for the past 6 months or more
Thanx, ma man .. thanx for being ma pal. My thoughts and love go out to Ben, his son, and to all who knew and loved that big man, and there were many … he was a real stalwart of our Scottish comedy community, and will be sorely missed."
