News: More Comedy Companies Receives Lifeline Grants

The winner has been announced at this year's Leicester Mercury Comedian Of The Year 2019 Final, which took place at the Y Theatre as part of the Leicester Comedy Festival.

The Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year Competition has taken place each February since 1995 and past winners have included Johnny Vegas, Josh Widdicombe, Romesh Ranganathan, Jo Enright and Kate Lucas.  Entry is via nomination from a selected group of UK promoters and the winner was chosen by an industry judging panel. 

And this year's winner is Daniel Sofoluke. Second place went to Simon Wozniak and third place went to Kathryn Mather.

London born, but now based in Manchester, Daniel Sofoluke uses his comedy to analyse issues both in society and his live, which results in some hilarious and thought-provoking stories.

On winning the coveted title, Sofoluke said: “I feel shocked and honoured.  Winning Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year and joining the ranks of previous winners is a dream come true."

The judging panel for this year was George Oliver (Editor, Leicester Mercury), Charlotte Lang (Glastonbury Festival), Andy Leitch (Off The Kerb Productions), Ian Walker (UNION Jack Radio) and comedy promoter, Rob Riley.
