Joe Lycett has bagged two awards at this year's Royal Television Society Awards.
The campaigning comedian picked up the award for Best Presenter for his work on the BBC series The Great British Sewing Bee. Judges described him as “warm, approachable and kind, with tremendous enthusiasm for the subject matter”.
And his Channel 4 consumer show Joe Lycett's Got Your Back has won the Formatted Popular Factual Award.
Mae Martin has won two awards too. She won the Breakthrough Award for her first sitcom, Feel Good. A second series is currently in production. Judges said her show was “bringing a fresh perspective and real originality to the screen”, calling Martin “clearly a star in the making." And with Feel Good co-writer Joe Hampson has won the RTS Writer - Comedy Award. the judges said the writing was “engaging, warm and truthful but also landed the humour with great skill”.
The winner of this year’s Scripted Comedy award is the Young Offenders described as “authentic, absurd and hilarious”.
The “supremely entertaining” Gbemi Ikumelo takes home the Comedy Performance – Female Award for her role in sketch show Famalam. The judges said “she just has funny bones” and “when she’s on screen you simply can’t take your eyes off her”. The Comedy Performance – Male Award went to Youssef Kerkour for his performance in the C4 comedy Home.
Big Narstie & Mo Gilligan won the Best Entertainment Award for The Big Narstie Show
The first-ever Comedy Entertainment award goes to @BBCTwo’s #TheRanganation. The judges praised the “genuinely funny, laugh-out loud event - the perfect showcase for the huge talent of its star."
Michaela Coel's groundbreaking I May Destroy You was the big drama winner of the night, winning three awards. Coel won Best Female Actor, Best Writer and the programme won Best Mini-Series. Coel was having technical problems earlier in the night, so at the end of the show gave three consecutive speeches for all the awards she won.
