Sadly no Bob Mortimer in this year's WILTY Christmas special but it's still an interesting line-up of guests joining regulars David Mitchell, Lee Mack and host Rob Brydon.

Rose Matafeo, Jim Broadbent, Angela Rippon and Ardal O'Hanlon are on the panels  spotting the porkies among the honest tales.

It's an interesting but not unusual move to feature non-comedians. Former newsreader Angela Rippon looks like she has never told a fib in her life, while Jim Broadbent is such a good actor he could probably pull the wool over everyone's eyes.

As for Ardal O'Hanlon we will be seeing more of him in the new year – he's one of the contestants in the next series of Taskmaster. Don't be fooled by his enduring performance as Father Dougal, he's no dimwit in real life.

And one of this year's comedy highlights for me was Rose Matafeo's series Starstruck. We are eagerly awaiting a second series which has already been filmed.

I should just add that Would I Lie To You? has become one of my favourite programmes. It's a simple format but an effective one. And, needless to say, Rob Brydon, Lee Mack and David Mitchell work fantasically well together.

Oh, and as for the picture on this page, while it features all the people in the show there is something of a question mark over its authenticity. David Mitchell tweeted it earlier and wrote: "Here’s a photo of us all standing in a line, an event which actually never occurred." It must be true, would David Mitchell lie to you? While Rose Matafeo tweeted: "also lmao I am not shorter than Rob Brydon" And Rob Brydon added: "My parents always said I would one day have a growth spurt..."
