What is the last thing you do before you go onstage (apart from check your flies and/or check your knickers aren't sticking out of your skirt and check for spinach between your teeth)

I have one last sip of my drink – normally something with whisky in it because, like most Brits, I have a healthy relationship with alcohol and can operate normally without it, thank you very much.

What irritates you?  

Cars with LED headlights. THAT’S TOO BRIGHT.

What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?

A few years ago I was in Tokyo and I tried fugu. It didn’t really taste of much - definitely not worth the potential asphyxiation and death, especially because it wasn’t even battered or anything.

What is the most stupid thing you have ever done? 

I have a few scars from surgeries. A few years ago, I tried to open a box of scar cream with a razor blade, slipped, cut myself, and ended up with another scar. Also, everything I did when I was 18.

What has surprised you the most during your career in comedy?

The fact that some things get a lot easier (see: writing topical jokes) and some things remain as difficult as they were the first time (see: trying to talk to a comedian I admire without breaking out into a furious sweat or staring).
