George Logan Of Hinge And Bracket Dies

George Logan, who played Dr Evadne Hinge in enduring musical duo Hinge and Bracket has died. He was 78.

Hinge and Bracket – Logan and Patrick Fyffe – had considerable success moving from live performers in venues such as the Vauxhall Tavern to television. They had a successful BBC series, Hinge and Bracket, in the late 1970s and Dear Ladies alongside Gyles Brandreth from 1983 - 1985. They were also regular guests on other shows, known with their distinctive brand of song and repartee.

They both sang and Hinge also played the piano. In their back story they were ageing spinsters who lived together in the fictional Suffolk village of Stackton Tressel.

At the peak of their fame they also appeared in panto, in the Royal Variety Show twice and in adverts for Enva Cream. Patrick Fyffe died of cancer at the age of 60 in 2002.

In A Boy Called Audrey (Pictures from an Exhumation) Logan wrote candidly about his life growing up in Glasgow. His story was later updated in What Audrey Did Next (All About Audrey Book 2). There was also I, Audrey (All About Audrey Book 1)  and Turn Again, Audrey (All About Audrey Book 3). Details here.
