Comedian Josh Pugh is in the line-up of Richard Osman's Gouse of Games this week alongside Will Bayley, Montell Douglas and Giovanna Fletcher. You should make note of Pugh because you are going to be hearing a lot more about him in the future.
Stand up comedy fans will already be familiar with this visually impaired comedian from Atherstone near Nuneaton, who has a sight condition called ocular albinism and nystagmus – his sight is limited to a three-metre radius. After Chris McCausland Pugh is probably the UK's second most famous visually impaired stand-up. He was nominated for Dave’s Edinburgh Comedy Award for his show ‘Sausage, Egg, Josh Pugh Chips & Beans’ in 2022 and is a winner of English Comedian of the Year. He has also been an online hit with his clips ‘Inventing the four cheese pizza’ and ‘Piss up in a brewery’.
He has already appeared on TV shows including Live At The Apollo, QI, Hypothetical, Question Team, Unforgivable, Live at the Moth Club and Rosie Jones’s Disability Comedy Extravaganza, How Are You? It's Alan Partridge and the sitcom Sneakerhead.
Pugh is now working on his very own sitcom for Channel 4. Stepping Up is set in the West Midlands. Josh, plays an over-enthusiastic stepdad called Josh alongside a cast including Denise Welch (Waterloo Road, Benidorm) who appears as Sue, Josh’s mum; Sophia Di Martino (Loki, Flowers) stars as Becky, Josh’s partner; Tom Hanson (Brassic, The Outlaws) plays Sean, Becky’s ex-husband. Lucia Keskin (Things You Should Have Done, Big Boys) takes on the role of Kelcie, Josh’s best friend and Jeff Mirza (Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, What’s Love Got to Do With It?) plays Dev, local legend and curry house owner.
Pugh has also had a successful football career, representing England in three World Championships and notching up over 50 caps. He has clearly got a winning mentality - but can his winning streak extend to triumphing in Richard Osman's House Of Games.
