Ricky Gervais To Celebrate 25 Years Of The Office With YouTube Special

Ricky Gervais To Celebrate 25 Years Of The Office With YouTube Special

To mark the 25th anniversary of The Office, Ricky Gervais has announced on the 8th July he will release a specially curated retrospective on his YouTube channel: a personal selection of 25 standout David Brent moments from the show that catapulted his career. Stripped back, no frills and intentionally understated, each moment is presented by Gervais himself, with the stories and context that only he can provide.

The special, premiering live on Ricky’s YouTube channel will share exclusive and never before told stories including inspiration behind iconic lines, scenes that nearly couldn't be filmed due to uncontrollable laughter on set, and Ricky’s personal insight into the mind of one of the most legendary characters in British comedy history. As well as brand new content created exclusively for YouTube, Ricky’s channel will become home to 25 years of archive, spanning The Office, After Life, his record-breaking stand-up shows and more - material that has, until now, never been fully accessible in one place. For some it will be pure nostalgia. For others, an introduction that is long overdue.

Ricky has recently been hosting regular Sunday evening live streams on the channel, taking questions from his audience, using his YouTube as a way for fans to interact with him directly every week. Topics range from AI in comedy and creative inspiration to veganism and the delightfully absurd, including a debate about whether feet with no legs beats hands with no arms.

"I’m absolutely loving building my YouTube channel. It’s the best way to interact with my wonderful fans without leaving the house and actually bumping into any of those weirdos." – Ricky Gervais.

Head to Ricky’s YouTube channel on 8th July at 6pm to find out which Brent moment his creator places at Number 1 and argue in the comments over the order.

Ricky has partnered with leading entertainment company, Platform Media on his YouTube channel.

There is also a forthcoming BBC Two celebration of The Office also  on July 8 at 10pm, reuniting Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman. Ricky Gervais is not taking part in that one. Details here.

Ricky Gervais has had global success with four previous Netflix stand-up specials: ‘Humanity’, ‘Supernature’, 'Armageddon' and his most recent, ‘Mortality’. ‘Armageddon’ and ‘Mortality’ both won a Golden Globe for ‘Stand-Up Comedy on Television’, with each of the specials breaking box office records and topping the Netflix charts upon release.

Gervais’s show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in 2023 entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest-grossing comedy gig ever.

Gervais will tour his new show, titled ‘Legend’, from autumn 2026 through to the end of 2027, when it will be filmed and become his fifth in a string of globally successful Netflix specials.

Gervais has won countless awards across his career and enjoyed huge critical success for the outstanding three series of ‘After Life’. ‘The Office’ is the most successful British comedy of all time, shown in more than 90 countries, with 14 remakes.

Ricky has hosted the Golden Globes awards five times, in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2020.
