Award-winning double act The Pin, Ben Ashenden and Alexander Owen, will be returning to Radio 4 in July with a bigger show than ever.
Their first two series were broadcast as late night 15-minute comedies. For the upcoming series, The Pin have secured a new home in the schedule with half-hour instalments as part of Radio 4’s 6.30pm comedy slot. The new four-part series starts on Thursday 13th July.
Series 1 (2015) & 2 (2016) saw Ben and Alex showered with acclaim for their unique brand of warm and silly yet intelligent comedy, that effortlessly maintained a broad appeal – David Walliams called the series a ‘brilliantly funny new comedy sketch show’, while on the other side of the pond, the series even got a ‘doff of the hat’ from Ben Stiller. The show also won the BBC Radio Award for ‘Best Comedy’, a Bronze Award at the Radio Academy Awards, and was nominated at the Writers’ Guild Awards.
Of the upcoming third series The Pin said “We had a fantastic time making our new series and we hope it gives people a blast of daft fun. We’re delighted to be moving from 11pm to the 6.30 Drive Time slot. Or as we call it, the ‘6.30 walk home via the park and feed the ducks to help grow the illusion in your girlfriends’ eyes that you have proper working days’ slot. We’d also like to thank the BBC for booking the Six O’Clock News as our warm up act.”
Over the past year, The Pin have also been garnering a reputation as leading, modern sketch writing talent for TV, having worked as a primary writing duo for BBC One’sWalliams & Friend(2016) and Tracey Ullman’s Show (2017). The duo’s venture into TV has also seen them bestowed with writing duties for an as-yet unannounced project with Sacha Baron Cohen, while also creating their own series of shorts for BBC Three entitled The Pin’s Top Ten.
The Pin Series 3 starts on Thursday 13th July, 6.30pm, Radio 4
