Actor Peter Blake, who was famous for a number of sitcom roles in the 1970s and 1980s, has died. He was 69.

Blake was probably best known as Kirk St. Moritz, the would-be lothario in Dear John, written by John Sullivan.

He also played a DJ in the ITV sitcom Agony starring Maureen Lipman.

He also fronted a famous Pepsi TV ad campaign and acted in various TV hits including Squirrels, Alas Smith and Jones, The New Statesman and Ever Decreasing Circles.

Elsewhere he appeared in a range of different roles onstage during his career and played Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show onstage numerous times. One of his more recent roles was as Ken Tate in EastEnders.

He is not to be confused with the artist Sir Peter Blake, who painted the Beatles' Sgt Pepper album cover.
