The filming of the second series of hit sitcom Ghosts has finished - just before coronavirus prompted the shut down of shooting. Director Tom Kinglsey announced the news with a tangible sense of relief in a series of tweets: "We reduced the last week's filming, and wrapped #bbcGhosts 2 early on Tuesday, juuust before all UK TV production shut down. The final day was mainly scenes with the plague victims."
"So weird to film together for a few months, and then suddenly have to say goodbye too early, with just elbow-bumps and foot-taps. I’m feeling so lucky we scraped through, but also so sad that most of our brilliant crew now have no jobs to go on to (though there's always Ghosts 3)"
"I’m so proud of this series, and can’t wait for you to see it - but it won’t be for a while! There’s a few months of the edit ahead of us, mainly working from home in self-isolation, with me and @TheRobotBadger sending edit notes to each other via hundreds of pages of google docs."
The BBC sitcom features a young couple, Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe), who unexpectedly inherit a grand country estate only to find it is both falling apart and overrun with ghosts.
The crumbling country pile of Button House is home to a troupe of restless spirits who have died there over the centuries, each ghost very much a product of their time, resigned to squabbling with each other for eternity over the most inane of daily gripes.
Ghosts was the first BBC One project for the creators and stars of Yonderland and the feature film Bill: Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond. The cast also includes Lolly Adefope and Katy Wix.
