DMs Are Open is the new showcase for the public’s comedy writing talents on Radio 4 and 4 Extra. This debut six-part series will feature a mixture of sketches, one liners, and voice notes written by listeners. Hosts Athena Kugblenu [Mock The Week, The News Quiz] and Ali Official [social media content creator and star of Muzlamic] will be joined by a cast of comedians who bring to life gags submitted by contributors.
Athena Kugblenu has a conservatory (it came with the man). She’s got an aluminium hooded extractor fan and uses fabric conditioner.
But does the quilted toilet roll in both of Athena’s toilets signify a working class girl done good? Or does it say that the rigid way we look at class might need a rethink?
The Female Pilot Club has announced the writers to benefit from their unique Test Flight Scheme.
They are Athena Kugblenu (pictured), Laura Evelyn, Rachel Clark, Sylvia Okyere & Zara Janjua.
The scheme was set up to help brilliant newer writers with barriers to inclusion connect with more experienced peers, to work on their winning script. Two of the scripts will then get an online read in front of industry professionals.
The six-month bursary, run by BBC Comedy, is awarded to aspiring comedy writers, with the aim of making a positive intervention to address an under-representation of BAME professionals in comedy production in broadcasting. She will be based in BBC offices across the UK whilst on the bursary.
