Dave Spikey
This morning it was announced that the BBC is to re-make Alan Bennett's classic Talking Heads monologues with a new all-star cast. There was a bit of a Twitter fuss when I posted the news, with Jenny Eclair and others arguing that the BBC should be commissioning new writers now more than ever. Well maybe if they did they could get writer MJ Price on board.
Comedian, writer and actor Dave Spikey will be performing his latest show Juggling on a Motorbike at London’s Leicester Square Theatre on Friday 28th September as a fundraiser for international animal welfare organization Animals Asia.
All proceeds from the performance’s ticket sales will be donated to the NGO, directly benefiting animals in Vietnam and China.
Award-winning comic Dave Spikey has extended his Punchlines tour with a series of 2016 dates, kicking off on March 3 in New Brighton.
Someone somewhere is surely writing a book on the north-south divide in comedy. And if they aren't maybe I should. It does seem that the north of England dominates when it comes to chatty, mainstream observational humour. Maybe it comes from a long tradition of gossiping over garden fences while snooty southerners keep themselves to themselves. Maybe northerners have to nurture more of a sense of humour because they are the ones that seem to get hit hardest whenever there is a recession.
